Last Monday at Howard’s Village
Board meeting, one of the agenda items was to review and
take action on a roundabout to be constructed at
Glendale Avenue and Hillcrest Heights. Village
President Carlene Felmer requested the item to be put on
the agenda. Felmer said she canvassed the area streets,
Zuider Zee, Holland Road and Shade Tree and only two
homes totally said yes to the roundabout. Others liked
the idea, but didn’t like that the children have to
cross the roundabout so they said no. One person did
not like the idea at all and felt the intersection was
designed to fit and if it has to interfere with
someone’s home, why sold the Village do it. By that they
meant that there is a home on one of the corners that
needs a driveway to be relocated on a different part of
their property, which does not add to the value of the
property.
George Speaker, trustee, said he
went up and down his street of Hillcrest and there was
the same concern about the children. How are they going
to cross the street without supervision?
The Board already approved the
roundabout for the budget, so there was some confusion
as to whether the item can be placed on the agenda
again. Whether approving the budget for the roundabout
is formal board action was the confusion. Felmer asked
the attorney and he said the roundabout issue could be
placed as an agenda item, but since there was some
confusion, Board members unanimously agreed to table the
item until the attorney is contacted.
