AHS Band To Be Part of Parade Honoring Green Bay Packer Legends

 Aspire, L.L.C. has announced its sponsorship of LEGENDS ON PARADE, the first, annual parade honoring the legends and fans of Green Bay football.  They have also announced that the Ashwaubenon High School marching band will be leading off the parade and that Interim Village President Jerry Menne will be riding in one of the classic cars.

LEGENDS ON PARADE will take place from 4, until 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007. The parade will begin and end at the Tundra Lodge Resort and Waterpark and wind its way through the stadium district beginning on Tony Canadeo Run, to Brett Favre Pass and onto Stadium View on Holmgren Way, traveling down Armed Forces Drive, to S. Oneida Street, to Lombardi Avenue and Bart Starr Drive. (see approved route attached)

LEGENDS ON PARADE will feature a caravan of classic autos of the late 50s and 60’s carrying NFL Alumni from the Green Bay Packers who will be on hand for NFL Alumni weekend. Among those confirmed to appear in the parade are: Paul and Angela Hornung, Jerry and Wink Kramer, Gary and Emily Knaflec, the families of the late Vince Lombardi and Ray Nitschke, as well as squads of former Packers cheerleaders, high school bands and cheerleaders and the very first 60’s “Golden Girl,” Mary Jane Van Duyce-Sorgel.

Bart and Cherry Starr, are tentative but plan on attending is their schedule permits.

LEGENDS ON PARADE will serve as the official opening of NFL Alumni weekend which includes three major events honoring Green Bay Packer legends, including Oneida Nation Walk of Legends unveilings of new monuments to Vince Lombardi, Paul Hornung, Jerry Kramer and the late Ray Nitschke, an NFL alumni gathering Saturday evening and NFL Alumni golf outing the following Monday.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the Ice Bowl this year, the theme of LEGENDS ON PARADE will be the “60’s Glory Years.” Parade goers and participants are encouraged to deck themselves out in either Packers or 60s attire.

The Bungee Run was a big success at the Ashwaubenon Park and Recreation’s Fun-Ath-Alon.  This is a family event with games, food, refreshments, and even inflatables for the children to play on.

26th Art Street To Be Celebrated Aug. 24, 25 , 26

 For 26 years Artstreet has been an important community tradition.  The downtown arts festival takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 24, 25 and 26.

“We are proud to present Artstreet for the 26th consecutive year in downtown Green Bay as a free event for the community to enjoy a variety of spectacular activities – fine arts, live entertainment, gourmet foods, cultural activities and so much more,” said Tina Quigley, executive director of Arts Events, Inc., the organization overseeing Artstreet. 

Artstreet has added three new features this year. They include:

Baylake Bank Monster Mural – You don’t have to be a Picasso or Rembrandt to participate in the Baylake Bank Monster Mural. The mural lets Artstreet attendees of all ages participate together in painting something huge. Visitors can grab a paint brush and contribute to this life size coloring book of humorous art and exciting scenes of the Green Bay area.

Bellin Health Art Meets Heart Red Hot Fashion Show – Bellin Health, the official health care sponsor of the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” movement, will present a Saturday afternoon fashion show on the APAC Smet Construction Services Main Stage. The “Go Red for Women” campaign  creates awareness, education and prevention of heart disease among women.

Hello Tomorrow Avon Beauty Tour – The Hello Tomorrow Avon Beauty Tour is a proud sponsor of Artstreet. Avon’s interactive exhibit highlights samples of innovative beauty products and features complimentary lip makeovers. The tour is designed to educate women about the link between cervical cancer and the human papillomavirus virus.

 Important Artstreet Information:

Parking – Free parking is available throughout the weekend in city parking ramps and lots and on adjacent streets.

Green Bay Press Gazette Information Centers – Three Green Bay Press Gazette Information Centers providing general event information are located on the Artstreet grounds. Visitors can purchase Artstreet T-shirts and posters at the Green Bay Press Gazette Main Information Center.

First Aid Station – Services provided by the City of Green Bay Fire and Rescue Department.

Child Care Station – Changing tables, playpens, rocking chairs, high chairs and baby basics including diapers, wipes, sunscreen and insect repellent provided by Wise Women Gathering Place. The Child Care Station is located in the Children’s Area.

Pets – A City of Green Bay ordinance 27.307 prohibits animals from special events downtown.

Unauthorized Vendors and Solicitors – According to Green Bay Municipal Code 6.201, soliciting and unauthorized vendors are prohibited on the Artstreet grounds.
